With a career that spans more than 30 years in developing small businesses from inception to maturation, Kevin's speciality is developing small business federal government contracting companies from inception to maturity. His experience includes all areas of operations, marketing, and finance. Kevin has helped companies flourish in a variety of sectors such as software development and engineering, military intelligence, chemical and scientific products distribution, management consulting, and architecture and construction management. He has been a partner in nine government contracting firms, each time utilizing his expertise in growing companies from the ground up. He has variously served as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of these companies. In these roles, he has gained the breadth of experience in federal contracting which is not often found.
Kevin is a past contributing editor of "Set Aside Alert" and has been published numerous times for articles on federal procurement law, proposal writing, accounting standards, and contract and project management. He also teaches seminars in selling to the federal government. Kevin has a Master of Business Administration degree from Marymount University and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Minnesota.
Doug has 22 years of program management experience, with more than 18 years in the Military Health System. He is certified as a Level 3 Program Manager with the Department of Defense. Doug's primary role at Axiom is to provide clients with handpicked teams of experts to assist in problem solving and to tailor proven program management models to client requirements.
Doug has served as deputy director (Acquisition Policy) in the Acquisition Management Office-Washington for the TRICARE Management Activity, and later as vice president, Health Services Division, for Conwal, Inc., where he was responsible for contract management and daily operations for numerous multimillion dollar service contracts in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. Doug also served as an operations officer at a large mid-Atlantic bank, gaining hands-on experience with multi-layered mergers and acquisitions. Doug has a Juris Doctorate (with honors), a Master of Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, all from the University of Maryland.
Derek Shields has an extensive background in disability services management consulting, including 15 years in support of federal agencies. He coordinates Axiom's efforts with reasonable accommodation programs, accessibility services, wounded service member support services, family policy and programs, and the Social Security Administration's Ticket to Work Program.
Derek also oversees Axiom's overarching disability and work/life business planning and services. Through a well-developed national network, Derek can strategically coordinate organizations and people to successfully implement federal disability policy and programs. He works closely with the award-winning DoD Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP), which has provided more than 102,000 accommodations to federal employees with disabilities and wounded service members. He also developed two successful national outreach campaigns for SSA's Office of Employment Support Programs, expanding SSA's Ticket to Work Employment Networks across the nation. Importantly, Derek also coordinates Axiom support for military families through the Military Homefront Website contract.
Derek has a Masters in Management and Disability Services from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University.
